Ladies Retreat and Concrete Pouring

I’ll make this a quick one.

The ladies are away on a retreat for two nights.  The men are acting like their throats are cut.  :)  Nah.  We’re fine.  I had to laugh yesterday though.  My four children are pretty independent and so I thought the weekend would be pretty cushy – no dirty diapers or major spews for me to clean up.  We watched a couple of little kids for a friend and had our dirty diaper.  Then at tea, Elle reacted to the shepherds pie Angel had made and held her first puke in her mouth to spurt out through her fingers all over Jesse, the table and the bench when the next puke followed it.  Ahhh…  it was wonderful.

IMG_1066Pris is sharing a couple of times at the retreat today.  She put in too many hours over pen and paper preparing to speak and for the last few days suffered from arm, neck and head aching.  She was completely out of it for about 24 hours!  This afternoon, the ladies are having a sauna and spa treat, (something most of them have probably never in their lives dreamt of), thanks to a group of ladies on Bribie Island who gave towards this.  It will be the highlight of the year for them probably!

We are due to go out and pour concrete for the remainder of the foundations after lunch.  Today, we had five guys and Jesse and myself getting ready for the mixer to arrive.  They get a free lunch from the tech college kitchen every day so I take them back for 45 minutes and then pick them up again.  It works pretty well.  Vitya (in the photo) is as strong as an ox and works like one too!  He jumped rope in a squatting position like it was second nature last night!  (He came to the Friday night gathering.)  Here he is trying to balance an egg on a light bulb just using salt.  Oh!  I took 21 kids home last night in the van.  They were packed in like sardines and every time I went round a corner, 19 of them screamed!  It was a lot of fun.

Agh… just learned that the cement truck broke down and won’t be coming today.  Monday – it will have to be.  Pity.  I’ve called the guys and cancelled the afternoon.  I don’t have to rush now.

Last night, I used cement as an illustration.  Cement, in 20 degrees C. will set pretty well in 10-14 days or so.  In 10 degrees, it can take double that time.  Solomon advised us to “remember the Creator in the days of our youth”.  These students are so open to the gospel now.  They are setting the course of their lives now.  If they wait a few years, it will be so much harder to give their lives to the Lord than it is right now.  As I speak to them, I see many responding to the real care and love that through speaking to their hearts, I am showing them.  I just hope they DO respond to the Lord’s love and accept Jesus as Lord and Savior.

Angel’s allergies are much better.  Hmmm…  That’s how we say it for some reason.  Her “allergies” are better.  What is meant is that her skin has cleared up and she is not itchy.  I’m thankful we chose to go ahead and get the testing done for things she is allergic to.  The list includes such things as egg white, wheat products, gluten, chocolate and about 15 other things.  Elle came out pretty similar.  It’s nice for them to both be allergic to certain stuff.  Companionship in the hardship…

Here’s a photo of our last wake-board  with Rzhyshchiv in the background and the setting sun behind the clouds.  Just looking at it gives me a warm fuzzy feeling…  :)
